For us, the cooking is where the magic happens. The hours spent perfecting recipes and carefully sourcing our ingredients all come together when we head into the kitchen. And it’s not a stage we rush – in fact, it’s one we relish.
Most other expedition food brands bulk-buy ingredients, cook them separately, and then mix them together at the end. The result is a meal where the flavours don’t blend, and the textures feel off.
Instead, we cook a complete meal exactly as you would at home. We take our time. We peel, chop and slice our ingredients here. Onions and garlic are gently browned, aromatic spices are properly cooked out, vegetables are softened slowly to bring out their flavour, and other techniques like wood-smoking are used to add depth. Protein is then added to this base so it absorbs all the flavour as it cooks.
Our team of chefs cook like this every day, making our meals in batches. The end result? When you rehydrate our food, it tastes just as if you’d cooked it at home - full of flavour, perfectly balanced and a complete meal. This is what makes Firepot different from typical freeze-dried camping meals.
