A world-first base-jump off Mount Kenya

Mount Kenya National Park is home to some of the most impressive landscapes in East Africa. It houses an extinct volcano, and its centuries-old glaciers carved out valleys, summits, and forest-covered slopes. For base jumper, Marc Lambert, it made the perfect location for some festive high-altitude mountaineering, and a world-first base-jump off Nelion Peak, the second highest peak on Mount Kenya at 4,900m.

Carrying 35kg of kit, Marc climbed high into the mountains with alpinist, Tim Howell, and wingsuit pilot, Ewa Kalisiewicz. They carried 21 Firepot meals with them.

The cloudy conditions hampered at least one descent, making for 17h days up and down the mountain, but they eventually summitted in reasonable conditions; Tim squirrel-suited down the mountain, while Marc made the first ever base-jump from the top.

Marc was one of the first people to approach Firepot for support back in 2017 with an exciting calendar of fund-raising and pro-environmental challenges, which took him from Scotland to Costa Rica. You can follow his adventures here.
